Game Intelligence & Executive functions
Why Game intelligence ?
In the world of sports, Game Intelligence means a player or athlete's ability to read and understand the game and convert this understanding into successful actions that helps the team to win.
Elite sports is black and white. Either you win or not. Performance is in constant focus. In many sports there is statistics for everything that can be measured. What can't be measured can't be developed. Development is what it is all about.
Considering this, it is amazing that the brain - the control center where behavior and performance is determined - until now is completely left out of the picture.
Therefor our scientific founders decided to apply cutting edge knowledge about the brain to prove that the capacity of human abilities - the so called executive functions can be measured and that performance can be predicted.
Two studies performed on senior and young elite soccer players has proven them right. With a unique hit-rate of 75 - 90 % they were able to predict who would make it or not on different positions and levels and who would score them most and make the most accurate passes. Since then we have worked with different clients in sports, business to measure cognitive abilities and talent and to develop performance in co-operation with clients and partners. With constantly thrilling results.
In business just as in sports, conditions that are constantly changing and need to be coped with and adapted to. If you are successful or not is decided to a large extent by your individual and collective executive functions or what we like to call your game intelligence.
Whether in sports or business you can look at your challenge as a game or a competition. The cognitive requirements and needs varies from different business, sports, positions and phases. It is essential to understand cognition and the correlation to behavior and performance, as well as the adaption and alignment of this understanding to each business and clients specific needs, targets, values and company culture.
We apply scientifically proven measurement tools, combined with behavioral knowledge to identify and develop talent and performance in a revolutionary way. Some tools are developed by others, some improved- or developed by us. It is the combined result and the in-depth understanding that makes us unique. We are passionate about people and we are convinced that what we do will step by step change the world by unleashing hidden potential as well as boosting already know talent.
A simple way of explaining executive function is;
“The ability to handle ongoing situations by making decisions and acting upon old and new information. The better you are at making the right decisions and act with the right timing, the more successful you are at what you do".
There are many executive functions. Mostly, several are activated at the same time when we perform our daily tasks. In some situations specific executive functions are more important or needed and therefor what is an efficient cognitive profile for one person in a specific situation may be completely different for another person and situation. As a consequense and importantly; There is no good or bad or ideal cognitive profile. We just happen to be born with a set of functions.
It is the knowledge of this profile and the matching to the requirements from different tasks and challenges that is crucial to optimize our performance. Both on an individual and team-level.
Here is a list with examples of executive functions. Not only can we measure the functions but also the capacity or the strength of them. Based on our unique combination of tools and behavioral knowledge, we can interpret and predict performance in different situations. And help you optimize it.
Some of the executive functions;
The brains working memory, how much information we can store
The brains process speed, how fast the brain works
The brains ability to update
The ability to take initiative
Understanding the relationship between cause and effect
The ability to plan and organize and to create structure in everyday life
The ability to monitor as well as evaluate ones owns actions and to self-correct
The ability to motivate ourselves
The ability to postpone needs satisfaction
The ability to inhibit impulses or block irrelevant things
The ability to focus attention
The ability to retain attention both with and without distractions, (limited to minutes)
The ability to allocate attention
The ability to cope with stress
To those that new to cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology, it should be clear that the ability to measure these executive functions, or these abilities, opens unlimited possibilities for improvement in any area.
